For many of us, the end of August means the end of the summer vacation, back-to-work, back-to-school, a familiar routine – La Rentrée. For the people of Bangladesh, the end of August will hopefully mean a time of new beginnings.
The past months have been a time of upheaval, insecurity and serious unrest. We have read the news and spoken with our colleagues, yet we must confess to being unable to grasp the impact of the dramatic events. We share the hope of the people of Bangladesh that the new interim government, led by Professor Muhammad Yunnus, will succeed in creating a new and better normal. For the women at the training centers and for our colleagues in Dhaka, the days of disruption meant closed training centers, interrupted production, closed shops, and once opened, no customers and no sales. This chain put a big dent in the core mission of our project – ensuring continuous production and wages for the women of the chars.
This upcoming month, we are thrilled to launch our Booster Campaign a powerful push to maintain meaningful work opportunities for the incredible women of the chars!
